Wrong Things

Wrong Things

By Scott Bailey © 2014

Perfect thighs
Perfect abs
Perfect eyes
For perfect lives
We give our teens
Aspirational dreams
Of fame and fortune
Imaginary screens
And every flick of every light
Every glossy page so bright
Every song of every type
Every ad with teeth so white
Every billboard, every bus
Every website we like or plus
Every search and every text
Every life that we connect
Every meal and every drink
Every label phrased succinct
The many many many times
Perfect views assault our eyes
Programming the soft and greying minds
To covet
The wrong things
So much effort
Is required
For those minds
Are really wired
With the truth

Meaningless

By Scott Bailey © 2017

Meaningless
Less meaning
All our words
Our angry words
Falling on deaf ears
Met with serious frowns
Hiding sneering laughter
Less
Less
Nothing
Only the attempt
Gives us life

Ordinary

By Scott Bailey © 2017

Ordinary
Normal
Steadfast
Boring
Nah!
That doesn’t make any money
Excite them
Stimulate them
Make them play
Make them pay
Milk them
Like the cattle they are

I yearn
For ordinary

Dreams

By Scott Bailey © 2014

What if
Dreams were not the product
Of opium
But the opium itself?
Not the symptom
But the cause
“Dream on!”
They say.
Should we?
You have to be asleep to dream.

Leagues

By Scott Bailey © 2014

Today’s tragedy
Is the damn acceptance of
Bloody league tables!
